California Town’s Social Security Office Installs Solar System

REC Solar, a division of the REC Group that installs and maintains solar systems in residential and commercial buildings, recently installed an 87 kW system on the Social Security Administration Office's building in Torrance, Calif.

The solar system is expected to offset roughly 60% of the electricity consumed, which will save over $20,000 the first year alone, the company says. The system will use more than 500 of Mitsubishi Electric & Electronics USA Inc.'s 165 W panels developed by the company's PV division.

‘We're pleased to incorporate the latest technology into our building,’ says Gerald Lam of LAM Development, which rents the Social Security Administration building to the government. ‘As electricity prices continue to rise, it is important that we look for ways to control costs.’
