Several Canadian renewable energy companies received honors in the first annual Deloitte Technology Green 15 Awards, presented by the Toronto-based management and accounting firm Deloitte Canada.

Among the companies winning awards were Burnaby, British Columbia-based power electronics firm Xantrex Technology Inc.; Ontario-based 6N Silicon Inc., which produces lower cost silicon for the solar cell industry; Vancouver-based microhydro project developer Plutonic Power Corp.; Calgary-based Sustainable Energy Technologies, which offers an inverter technology that enables renewable power producers to tie into the grid; and Vancouver-based VRB Power Systems Inc., which developed an energy storage technology that can be used for backup power.

‘Over the past decade, Canadian companies have displayed an incredible business acumen and entrepreneurial spirit that we now see emerging in an entirely new field that we're recognizing this year with the Deloitte Technology Green 15,’ says John Ruffolo, national leader of the technology, media and telecommunications industry group for Deloitte Canada.
