According to news sources, an Oregon factory will stop producing solar wafers for Panasonic's Sanyo subsidiary at the end of June. Citing a Japanese newspaper, Bloomberg says Panasonic was motivated by its desire to concentrate production of solar wafers in Malaysia.

The Oregonian reports that the termination of silicon slicing operations at Sanyo's Salem, Ore., facility, will cost 52 jobs. Production of crystalline silicon ingots is expected to continue at the plant.
