Standard Solar And Solar Grid Storage Complete Commercial Microgrid

0

Maryland-based solar developer Standard Solar and Solar Grid Storage have completed construction on a solar microgrid project for real estate developer Konterra in Laurel, Md. The project combines a grid-connected energy storage system with a 402 kW photovoltaic array.

The PV system has 1,368 solar panels and is expected to produce 20% of the electricity needed for the developer's headquarters building. The array is in a canopied arrangement and includes two electric vehicle charging stations with infrastructure for four additional stations. Storage provides backup power and enables energy management techniques such as demand reduction and peak shaving.

Standard Solar says the system balances the grid through frequency regulation, volt-ampere reactive compensation and demand response services. The project is financed by Konterra, PNC Bank and Solar Grid Storage and supported through a Maryland Energy Administration grant.
