Acer Commits To 100% Renewable Energy For Its U.S Operations

Acer, a California-based hardware and electronics firm, has purchased enough green power to offset 100% of its carbon emissions from electricity at all of the company's U.S. facilities through the end of 2015.

The company is purchasing renewable energy credits (RECs) from Renewable Choice Energy. The RECs are certified by Green-e Energy and sourced from a blend of renewable energy sources. The purchase totals more than 27 million kWh of green power.

Acer says it has established global emissions-reduction targets of 30% by 2015 and 60% by 2020.

Along with the renewable energy purchase, Acer has elected to become a partner in the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency's (EPA) Green Power Partnership and is now ranked No. 24 on the agency's Top 30 Tech & Telecom list of the largest green power users.

‘We are excited to work with Renewable Energy Choice to acquire renewable energy certificates as an element of Acer's global climate change strategy and will continue to consider RECs as an option for meeting our global emission reduction goals,’ says Emmanuel Fromont, president of Acer America Corp.
