Entropy Installs 1.3 MW Solar Canopy For Volvo Plant In Maryland

Charlotte, N.C.-based Entropy Solar Integrators has completed a 1.3 MW solar parking lot canopy structure for Volvo Group's manufacturing facility in Hagerstown, Md.

Covering the plant's entire north parking lot, the solar canopy contains approximately 5,000 Canadian Solar photovoltaic modules. Solectria supplied the inverters. Electricity generated by the canopy is delivered directly to the facility, helping to offset the plant's electrical demand. The Volvo Group entered into a 20-year contract with ConEdison Solutions to purchase the electricity.

‘By converting its parking area to a solar energy system, Volvo is not only generating clean energy, but also keeping the hot sun off of its employees' cars and protecting them from snow and ice in the winter months,’ says Erik Lensch, managing director of Entropy. ‘As one of the largest solar parking canopies on the east coast, this complex project will be providing benefits to Volvo for decades to come.’
