Cathartes, Nexamp Building 4.5 MW Solar Plant In Massachusetts

0

Boston-based private development company Cathartes Private Investments will partner with solar developer Nexamp to develop a 4.5 MW solar power plant on 22 acres of industrial land bordering Route 3 in Westford, Mass. According to the companies, this will be Massachusetts' largest privately owned solar power plant.

Construction will begin this fall on the $23 million project. The developers, financiers, operators, utility partners and end users will all be Massachusetts companies, Cathartes notes. Financing for the project comes primarily from Cambridge Savings Bank, with Middlesex Bank also participating.

National Grid will connect the solar facility to the company's distribution system, purchasing the energy through the state's new net-metering law. Cathartes will receive solar renewable energy certificates, which it will be able to sell to utilities and other energy suppliers.
