Eldor Progressing On Long Island PV Carport Projects

Holtsville, N.Y.-based Eldor Contracting Corp. says it has completed the fifth solar carport in its 12.82 MW solar initiative in Suffolk County, N.Y. To date, Eldor has completed four solar carports at the Brentwood train station, H. Lee Dennison Building in Hauppauge, Suffolk County's North County Complex in Hauppauge, and a Suffolk County-owned building in Riverhead.

Currently under construction are solar carports at the Cohalan Court Complex in Central Islip and the Deer Park train station.

Eldor was brought on board for the construction work by EDF Renewable Energy, formerly enXco. The installations required Eldor's turnkey construction management, general contracting and electrical contracting services, as well as its engineering services.

The company's responsibilities in this $65 million initiative also include the commissioning, telemetry and SCADA activities for gathering real-time data to monitor, analyze and control environmental conditions at the installations.

Equipment used in the projects includes 22 500 kW inverters, 22 medium-voltage step-up transformers and seven medium-voltage switchgear lineups. Constructed on public properties in Suffolk County, the solar PV facilities are being interconnected to Long Island Power Authority's (LIPA) grid. The energy produced by EDF Renewable Energy will then be purchased by LIPA.
