Duke Energy Renewables has acquired the 20 MW Seville I and 30 MW Seville II solar power projects in Imperial County, Calif., from Kruger Energy.

The energy generated from Seville I and associated renewable energy credits (RECs) will be sold to San Diego Gas & Electric under a 20-year agreement. The Imperial Irrigation District will purchase the power and related RECs from Seville II under a 25-year agreement.

Kruger Energy will oversee the construction of the projects, which are under way. The facilities are expected to be in service by the end of the year.

With this addition, Duke Energy Renewables currently has six solar power projects in California that total more than 100 MW.

‘The Seville projects are a sizeable addition to our California solar portfolio; they will almost double our solar capacity in the state,’ says Greg Wolf, president of Duke Energy's commercial portfolio.
