Tadiran Batteries To Power Heliostats For BrightSource’s 121 MW Ashalim CSP Project In Israel

Tadiran Batteries, a wholly owned subsidiary of the France-based Saft Group, has been awarded a contract by California-based BrightSource Energy to provide rechargeable energy packs to power more than 50,000 heliostats being deployed at the Ashalim concentrating solar power (CSP) project in Israel.

During the day, Tadiran's TLI lithium-ion energy packs will drive the heliostat motors and power device communications. The batteries reduce cabling and wiring requirements for the heliostat field.

The Ashalim Plot B plant is being constructed by a consortium led by France-based Alstom and including BrightSource Energy. Both of these firms own 25.05% of the project. The remaining 49.9% is owned by the Noy Fund.
