First Solar Halts Agua Caliente Installation Until 2013

First Solar Inc. has reportedly stopped construction on its 290 MW Agua Caliente PV plant in Yuma County, Ariz., because it is too far ahead of schedule.

Last month, the company announced that the installation was more than two-thirds complete. Now, according to a Bloomberg report, First Solar must halt module deliveries because of contractual obligations. Module shipments are not expected to resume until January, and product that has already arrived at the site will remain in boxes until construction picks back up.

Aaron Chew, an analyst at Maxim Group, told Bloomberg that First Solar got ahead of schedule on Agua Caliente construction because it was diverting excess modules to the Arizona project site as inventory built up during the global solar module oversupply period. The project is currently 85% complete.
