Hoku Solar’s PV Proposal Accepted

0

In response to Hawaiian Electric Co.'s (HECO) request for proposals, Hoku Solar Inc., a subsidiary of Hoku Scientific Inc., will install a photovoltaic (PV) power system at HECO's Ward Avenue facility. The system, which will be installed on the roof of the Archer Substation at the facility by early 2008, is rated at 167 kW.

According to the companies, Hoku Solar will own and operate the system, and charge HECO for the power generated at a fixed rate over 20 years. This long-term, fixed energy pricing agreement is a new approach for HECO to secure renewable energy. Furthermore, HECO will have an option to purchase the system from Hoku after five years.
