Nanosolar Highlights 1 GW CIGS PV Production Tool

0

Nanosolar says it has achieved a major milestone in solar technology: the solar industry's first 1 GW production tool. The company notes that the 1 GW-throughput feat is enabled through proprietary nanoparticle ink technology that has been in development for several years.

The nanoparticle technology allows the company to deliver efficient solar cells (presently up to more than 14%) that are printed via a simple, fast and robust coating process that eliminates the need for high-vacuum chambers and the associated deposition techniques, Nanosolar says.

The company adds that its 1 GW copper indium gallium selenide (CIGS) coater has exhibited successful operation running at 100 feet per minute, but faster run times are possible. In principle, the same coating technique can work at speeds up to 2,000 feet per minute, according to Nanosolar.
