REI, a specialty outdoor retailer and consumer co-op, has completed a 2.2 MW rooftop solar installation atop its new distribution center in Goodyear, Ariz.
REI says the project will offset 100% of the building’s annual electricity consumption and help the company reach its goal of achieving a net-zero operation. REI’s solar portfolio now stands at 5.4 MW of installed capacity.
Working hand-in-hand with REI, Northern California-based Blue Oak Energy helped conceptualize the building and construction plans and was involved with every aspect of the project.
Blue Oak Energy has added more than 25 solar systems at REI locations across the U.S., according to Tobin Booth, CEO of Blue Oak Energy.
“REI’s ambitious net-zero energy distribution center is a landmark project and houses one of the largest rooftop solar arrays in Arizona,” says Kirk Meyers, sustainability manager at REI. “We are thrilled to continue our relationship with the Blue Oak Energy team.”
