President Obama’s FERC Chairman Nominee Bows Out

0

Ron Binz, President Barack Obama's nominee to serve as chairman of the U.S. Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC), has withdrawn himself from consideration for the lead role.

In June, Obama nominated Binz, a former chairman of the Colorado Public Utilities Commission. However, according to a Bloomberg report, Binz's nomination had faced strong opposition from Republicans claiming that he had a bias toward renewable energy over coal.

Bloomberg reports Binz believes his stances on energy were ‘repeatedly twisted and misrepresented,’ and he stepped out of the way so that ‘the president can move forward with another nominee.’ The Obama administration has yet to name a new candidate for the FERC chairman position.
