JA Solar Polysilicon Solar Cells Achieve 20% Conversion Efficiency

JA Solar Holdings Co. Ltd. has achieved 20% conversion efficiency in its polycrystalline silicon solar cell.

The company says the advance was made possible through its proprietary light trapping and surface passivation technologies. The goal is to make production versions of the polycrystalline cells available for commercial module assemblies in 2015.

‘The confidence we had in surpassing 20% efficiency this year extends now to our expectation to realize even more efficiency gains in the quarters ahead,’ says Wei Shan, chief scientist and general manager for research and development at JA Solar.
