Pittsburgh-based Eaton says it has received multiple contracts to provide solar inverters, electrical distribution equipment and services for the 72.9 MW Redwood Solar Farm in Kern County, Calif.

Located on 345 acres of low productivity farmland, the project, developed by Sustainable Power Group and 8minutenergy Renewables, is expected to generate 146 GWh of electricity per year. There are plans to possibly expand the scope of the project in the future. Southern California Edison, Pacific Gas and Electric Co. and the City of Palo Alto Utilities will receive the power produced from the solar arrays through power purchase agreements.

Eaton received its contracts from Gehrlicher Solar America Corp., which previously signed an agreement with 8minutenergy to lead engineering, procurement, construction and commissioning for the project.

Eaton will supply its Power Xpert 1670 kW solar inverters and direct-coupled Cooper Power series transformers. The project will also incorporate a range of additional Eaton power distribution products and services, including AC switchboards, group-mounted 1,000 V Crouse-Hinds series solar disconnects, and startup and commissioning services.
