U.S. Department Of Energy Awarding $9 Million For Improvements To Solar Forecasting

0

As part of its SunShot Initiative, the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) has released a new funding solicitation focused on improving the accuracy of solar forecasting. The agency will give out up to $9 million over three years.

In the solicitation, the DOE says it will ‘support efforts to improve the accuracy of solar forecasting at sub-hourly, hourly and day-ahead time frames.’ This greater understanding of irradiance changes due to clouds and other weather patterns is expected to help grid operators improve grid stability as solar power deployment increases.

Letters of intent are due May 16, and full applications for funding are due June 19. More information is available here.
