Renewable Energy Systems (RES) says it will construct and serve as the operations and maintenance contractor for the 102 MW Lamesa Solar Facility, located in Dawson County, Texas.

RES recently sold the project to Southern Power, a subsidiary of Southern Co. Construction will start this month, and commercial operations are expected by mid-2017.

The project’s original developer, BNB Renewable Energy Holdings, began working with landowners, local officials and community leaders in late 2013, and in mid-2015, it entered into a joint development agreement with RES to complete the project.

The facility, which will comprise 410,000 photovoltaic panels, will generate enough electricity to power the energy needs of approximately 26,000 U.S. homes, says RES.

Chad Horton, vice president of RES Development for the Americas, notes that the company has already added more than 70 MW of solar in Texas. This project, however, is its “third and largest” to date.
