SECI, DMRC Sign MOU To Develop 500 MW Of Solar In India

The Solar Energy Corp. of India (SECI) and the Delhi Metro Rail Corp. (DMRC) have signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) for 500 MW of solar projects to be developed ‘off-site’ – i.e., not on DMRC sites – within National Capital Region of India.

The partners say the solar projects will maximize their use of renewable energy, mitigate the impact of grid tariff increases and reduce their carbon footprint. Both of the organizations will collaborate to source additional power from other developers.

SECI announced that the initial phase will involve the installation of 500 MW of ground-mounted projects over a three-year period. While DMRC will enter into long-term power purchase agreements, SECI will own and operate the projects.

The MOU was officially signed on Dec. 21 in the presence of a host of senior officials.
