Sharp Corp. says it will invest 22 billion yen ($200 million) to boost output capacity for thin film solar cells more than tenfold by October 2008, according to a recent report from Reuters.

Sharp said it plans to expand output capacity for thin film cells to 160 MW per year from the current 15 MW at its Katsuragi Plant in Nara in western Japan. The company is also ramping up its thin film capacity with a new plant in Sakai in Osaka, which is set to go online by March 2010 and eventually target output of 1,000 MW per year.
