SolarCity and Lend Lease will provide solar energy to more than 850 U.S. military residences at Lend Lease-managed Air Force communities in California and Colorado – the Tierra Vista at the Los Angeles Air Force Base (AFB), and the Peterson AFB and Schriever AFB, both of which are in Colorado Springs, Colo.

The projects are part of SolarCity's SolarStrong program, which aims to provide solar power for up to 120,000 U.S. military homes.

For the Los Angeles project, SolarCity will engineer, install and maintain the solar systems at all three AFB locations. The more than 18,000 solar panels used for the project are expected to offset between 30% and 60% of the electricity typically used in each community, according to SolarCity.

Lend Lease projects also include the two large solar communities in the country at Soaring Heights Communities at the Davis-Monthan AFB in Arizona and Island Palms Communities at Army Housing in Oahu, Hawaii, as well as a solar thermal project at Camp Lejeune, N.C., and homes on a military installation at Fort Campbell, Ky.

In addition, Lend Lease and SolarCity have carried out large-scale solar projects at Davis-Monthan Air Force Base in Tucson, Ariz., and Joint Base Pearl Harbor-Hickam in Honolulu, Hawaii.
