SoLayTec says a tier-one Chinese manufacturer of photovoltaic cells has ordered an InPassion atomic layer deposition (ALD) machine for producing industrial-type passivated-emitter rear-contact (PERC) cells in their production monocrystalline wafers for photovoltaic modules. The company had previously procured an InPassion LAB machine for research and development purposes.

SoLayTec says its customer is using the RENA-SoLayTec machines in to perform aluminum oxide (Al2O3) passivation to develop p-type wafers with a conversion efficiency of over 20%. Ultimately, the manufacturer is expected to transition to mass-production of PV wafers based on PERC cells.
