SoloPower’s Portland Module Factory Scheduled To Open This Week

Thin-film PV module manufacturer SoloPower is expected to celebrate the grand opening of its high-volume factory in North Portland, Ore., on Sept. 27, according to Sustainable Business Oregon.

The facility, which is expected to employ approximately 90 people by the end of the year, will produce SoloPower's copper indium gallium diselenide (CIGS) modules. Because the company received a $197 loan guarantee from the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) last year, critics have been quick to compare SoloPower to failed CIGS manufacturer Solyndra.
