Suniva Secures Monocrystalline Silicon From REC

Suniva Inc., a manufacturer of crystalline silicon solar cells, has signed a long-term agreement with REC, a producer of polysilicon and wafers for solar applications. The contract gives Suniva access to more than $300 million worth of monocrystalline silicon wafers over the next five years for use at the company's new high-volume production facility in Georgia.

‘This contract is aligned with our increasing presence in the high-efficiency monocrystalline cell segment and comes in addition to the significant contract portfolio signed to date,’ says Erik Thorsen, president and CEO of REC.

REC says it is significantly expanding its monocrystalline silicon wafer capacity in Norway as Suniva scales its manufacturing operations in the U.S. Suniva's facility, announced earlier this month, will have an initial capacity of 32 MW on its first line, with additional lines planned to produce more than 130 MW over the next two years.
