Xcel Energy Seeking Up To 1,300 MW Of Solar, Wind Power

0

As part of a request for proposals (RFP) intended to secure approximately 2,200 MW of electric generation supply for Colorado customers between now and 2015, Xcel Energy is seeking to add up to 700 MW of additional wind and solar generation and is considering acquiring up to 600 MW of power from solar thermal generation with storage capability or natural-gas backup.

Under Colorado Public Utilities Commission (CPUC) rules, all forms of electric generation greater than 30 MW – both fossil fuels and renewables – can be bid. However, this RFP restricts coal-fired bids to those from facilities that capture and sequester at least 50% of their carbon dioxide emissions.

Xcel is sponsoring a pre-bid conference on Jan. 28 in Denver for parties interested in offering proposals through the RFP. Proposals are due on April 10, and Xcel expects to complete the resource evaluation process by the fall of 2009.
