Amtech Systems Inc., a provider of capital equipment for solar cell manufacturing and other applications, says the company's president, Fokko Pentinga, has been promoted to CEO and will retain his current position as president.
J.S. Whang, current CEO and chairman of the board, has been elected executive chairman and will retain his current position as chairman of the board. These changes will become effective Jan. 1, 2012.
Pentinga has over 30 years' experience in the solar and semiconductor industries, including 17 years at Amtech. He was instrumental in securing Amtech's research and development partnership with Yingli Green Energy Holding Co. and the Energy Research Centre of the Netherlands, the company says.
Pentinga has been president of Amtech since March 2010. Previously, he was managing director of Amtech Europe and general manager of Tempress Systems Inc., Amtech's solar subsidiary.
