Independent power producer BlueChip Energy LLC (BCE) has signed an agreement to acquire land in central Florida for the development of a 40 MW solar farm. The project, called the Sorrento solar farm, will generate an estimated 64 million kWh annually.

The solar farm will be a ground-mounted system covering 140 acres of open field in Lake County, Fla. The proposed site is located approximately 50 miles northwest of Orlando and is adjacent to two utility substations, BCE notes. The project will deploy an estimated 140,000 solar panels and will be built in stages.

Solar panels and racking systems will be provided by Advanced Solar Photonics, the manufacturing subsidiary of BCE, for 75% of the project. The remaining 25% of the modules is expected to be provided by additional equity partners.
