Copper Crossing Solar Ranch, a 20 MW PV plant in Florence, Ariz., has been connected to the grid and is producing solar power under Salt River Project's (SRP) community solar program.

More than 100 schools in 11 school districts have agreed to participate in SRP's program and are among the first customers to receive energy from the plant. The school districts will purchase a total of 7,840 kW of solar energy from the plant for a fixed price for 10 years.

The facility, developed by Iberdrola Renewables, contains approximately 66,000 solar panels manufactured by SunPower Corp. and is located on 144 acres.
