Gainesville Goes All In On Renewable Electricity

On Thursday, the city commission of Gainesville, Fla., unanimously passed a resolution committing the city to be powered by 100% renewable electricity by 2045, according to the Sierra Club.

The resolution also calls for net-zero greenhouse-gas emissions community-wide by 2045.

“Thank you to the city commissioners for listening to our concerns and encourage Gainesville residents to be involved in the planning process as we determine our energy future,” comments Bob Tancig, Gainesville resident and member of the Citizens‚Äô Climate Lobby.

Other Florida cities that have committed to 100% renewable energy include Largo, Orlando, Sarasota and St. Petersburg, notes the Sierra Club. Gainesville is the 90th city across the U.S. to make the commitment.
