Home furnishings retailer IKEA has announced the completion of a 2.24 MW solar array installed at its distribution center in Westampton, N.J.

The 498,187-square-foot PV array consists of 15,606 panels and represents IKEA's 37th completed solar project in the U.S. To help meet its goal of being energy independent by 2020, IKEA says it has installed more than 250,000 solar panels on buildings worldwide thus far.

For the development, design and installation of the Westampton distribution center's solar system, IKEA contracted with Inovateus Solar LLC, a distributor and integrator specializing in large-scale solar installations.

"Installing solar panels atop this facility demonstrates that the company's sustainable commitment extends beyond our stores into all facets of our supply-chain operations," comments Tony Angotti, manager of the Westampton distribution center." This solar array will reduce significantly the carbon footprint and electricity costs of this facility."
