Innovalight Inc., a privately held company selling silicon ink and solar cell process technology, has been selected for funding under the SunShot initiative by the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE).
Innovalight says it will receive $3.4 million to accelerate the development and production of silicon ink material and processes for high-efficiency solar cells at its operations in California's Silicon Valley. The company manufactures a nanotechnology-based silicon ink and licenses a proprietary process that allows for an upgrade to solar cell manufacturing lines to boost the performance of solar cells and lower production costs.
The DOE's SunShot initiative aims to dramatically decrease the total costs of solar energy at the utility, commercial and residential levels by 75% before the end of the decade.
