Lightsource BP has acquired six solar development assets from Orion Renewable Energy Group LLC totaling 135 MW of generating capacity.
The portfolio consists of projects in the PJM power pool – specifically, in the rapidly growing energy markets of Pennsylvania and Maryland.
The announcement comes on the heels of the Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection’s recently published draft plan to expand in-state solar resources to 11 GW, with a goal of supplying 10% of the state’s electric retail sales by 2030.
“We are accelerating the development of solar, with a strong focus on new and underserved markets, as it is an important component of a diverse fuel mix,” says Nick Boyle, Lightsource BP Group CEO.
In December 2017, BP announced a $200 million investment into Lightsource. Two months later, the rebranded Lightsource BP unveiled its first U.S. project commitment, to build the largest solar farm in Kansas for the Mid-Kansas Electric Co.
