NRG Energy Inc. and First Solar have entered into an agreement for First Solar to provide engineering, procurement and construction services for NRG's 66 MW Alpine solar project in Lancaster, Calif.
First Solar will also provide operations and maintenance services. Electricity from the Alpine project will be sold under a 20-year power purchase agreement with Pacific Gas and Electric Co.
According to the companies, construction is expected to start before the end of the year and be completed in the third quarter of 2012. The project will use First Solar's thin-film PV modules.
First Solar and NRG Energy are also collaborating on the Blythe solar plant, which is currently under construction.
