Building on the success of Red Horse 2 wind and solar project, Swinerton Renewable Energy (SRE) was selected by an affiliate of D. E. Shaw Renewable Investments LLC (DESRI) to construct the Red Horse 3 solar project.
Work on this 30 MW AC project, which is located near Willcox, Ariz., roughly 80 miles east of Tucson, began in December and is slated to be finished in the second quarter of this year.
The project features Sungrow central inverters, Jinko modules, and Array Technologies Inc. single-axis trackers. The power generated by the facility is expected to connect directly into the Tucson Electric Power grid.
Red Horse 3 is being built on land adjacent to Red Horse 2. In addition to engineering, procurement and construction duties, SRE has a 10-year agreement to provide operations and maintenance services for both projects. Blymyer Engineers has been contracted to provide engineering services alongside the SRE team.
SRE says it is dedicated to hiring from the local workforce, and nearly two-thirds of the on-site employees are residents of the surrounding area.
“Red Horse 3 is yet another example of a successful joint effort with DESRI to bring both jobs and affordable, clean energy to the residents of Arizona,” states George Hershman, senior vice president and general manager of Swinerton Renewable Energy. “We are also excited to partner with Sungrow, an innovative developer of energy conversion products, to use their inverters for the first time.”
