Norway-based REC Group has supplied its photovoltaic modules for the newly commissioned 2 MW solar installation at Rio Tinto Stadium in Sandy, Utah.

The sports facility, which is the home of Major League Soccer's Real Salt Lake club and United Soccer League's Real Monarchs, incorporates 6,414 REC Peak Energy 315 W, 72-cell solar panels spread across several solar parking structures and rooftops.

The grid-connected installation was designed, engineered and constructed by Utah-based Auric Solar. It is expected to offset 73% of the sports facility's electricity usage.

‘This project has positioned Real Salt Lake at the forefront of energy production and conservation in all of professional sports,’ says Trent Vansice, principal of Auric Solar.
