Rochester Airport Completes PV Installation

The Greater Rochester International Airport, located in New York, has installed a 100 kW PV system on the roof of its terminal building. This Monroe County Green Energy Initiative project is projected to save $641,929 over the 25-year lifetime of the panels, factoring in energy inflation.

The project consists of two 50 kW arrays and is specifically designed for a future expansion. Solar Liberty of Buffalo, N.Y., was chosen by way of competitive bidding to install the project. The firm installed the 320 Sunpower 305 W solar panels over the course of three days.

The project was funded in part with a New York State Energy Research and Development Authority grant, and the remainder was paid for by a renewal and replacement fund through the Monroe County Airport Authority.
