Soitec has dedicated its new North American solar headquarters and manufacturing plant in San Diego. Gov. Edmund G. Brown Jr., D-Calif., provided remarks at the event.
The factory is expected to supply more than 300 MW in equipment for solar projects to provide electricity to San Diego Gas & Electric. It will have an annual manufacturing capacity of 200 MW of Soitec's fifth-generation Concentrix concentrator photovoltaic (CPV) modules, with the opportunity for future expansion to double the capacity to 400 MW per year.
Soitec notes that it employs a distributed manufacturing model that locates CPV module factories close to its customers. The distribution model also calls for a large percentage of local content and local job generation.
