St. Louis-based Solutia Inc. has been selected to supply Therminol VP-1 synthetic heat-transfer fluid for Solnova 4, a new 50 MW concentrating solar power (CSP) plant in Sevilla, Spain, managed by Abener.
Solnova 4 is one of several solar plants that will be located at Abener's Solucar Platform complex. It is scheduled to begin producing electricity in 2010.
Therminol heat-transfer fluid is used in the trough-shaped mirror assemblies to absorb concentrated sunlight and heat up to about 400 degrees C. The heated Therminol is used to generate steam that drives power-generating turbines.
