SunEdison, Reno Contracting Install 2.6 MW Solar Project

Reno Contracting has installed a 2.6 MW solar photovoltaic project at California State Prison in Lancaster, Calif., for SunEdison. The single-axis tracker PV project incorporates 9,500 panels.

The Lancaster facility is one of five state prisons in Southern California that have added a combined 23 MW of solar-generated power last year, an initiative undertaken by SunEdison and the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation (CDCR). These solar projects are expected to result in $55 million in energy cost savings over the next 20 years, according to the CDCR.

Reno served as general contractor for the project. Despite high winds and heightened prison security requirements, the company completed the project in eight weeks – a nearly 50% reduction from the original construction schedule.
