USA Wire & Cable Inc., based in Austin, Texas, has introduced USA SOLAR CABLE, which the company says is the first photovoltaic-rated cable for the solar energy industry. This new cable will conform to UL's Photovoltaic Technical brief and specification UL 4703. Voltage ratings available are 600 V, 1000 V and 2000 V.
‘In the last six months, we've been working with our customers to define a cable that addresses the unique issues related to solar energy installations,’ says Hugh Robertson, vice president of sales at USA Wire & Cable. ‘We expect that USA SOLAR CABLE will become the quality standard that will deliver the greatest long-term value to owners and developers of solar energy projects.’
USA SOLAR CABLE can be used to wire photovoltaic panels to the electrical collection system on utility-scale solar energy projects and is designed to withstand long-term exposure to extreme conditions. The overall jacket is lead-free, halogen-free, flame retardant and environmentally friendly, the company says. Unlike competitive products, in the case of fire, USA SOLAR CABLE will not emit harmful gases, smoke or hydrochloric acid when exposed to water.
