SunEdison Launches New PERC Modules

California-based SunEdison has introduced the Silvantis R-series passivated emitter and rear cell (PERC) technology solar module.

SunEdison says the PERC technology enables Silvantis R-series modules to achieve up to 17.4% efficiency. The modules, available in 60-cell and 72-cell formats, have warranties for operation with high-efficiency transformerless inverters. The company says the modules have been tested beyond standard potential induced degradation certification conditions.

Sollega Offers Plastic Commercial Racking

California-based Sollega has introduced a lightweight ballasted hybrid roof-mount system using Ultramid plastic material from BASF.

Sollega says the FastRack510 (FR510) weighs 4.5 pounds and is engineered for extreme rooftop conditions. The system features a one-piece, stackable design that enables 500 kW of racking materials to fit in a standard 40-foot shipping container. The company says the FR510 arrives at the project site fully assembled and accommodates any type of module at 5° and 10° tilt angles.

BASF says its Ultramid material is composed of glass-reinforced nylon with a UV inhibitor and has been used for over 40 years in demanding applications - such as automobile components - exposed to rain, chemicals, sunlight and vibrations.

SST Adds Tilt Options
To Roof Mount

SST Solar has added 5° and 10° tilt options to its Aerocompact line of self-ballasted roof solar panel mounting systems.

The company says the south-facing tilt angles were implemented in response to demand from North America and Southern Europe, joining the existing 15° configuration. The company also offers a 10° east-west configuration.

Aerocompact flat-roof mounts feature slipmats that are already integrated and glued on the bracket and pre-assembled grounded clamps. SST Solar says the mounting system is wind-tunnel tested and certified to 150 mph.

Shoals Launches
SolarSNAP Tool

Shoals Technologies Group and Synapse Wireless have introduced the SolarSNAP project management tool.

SolarSNAP is designed for owners to calculate labor costs and contractor effectiveness in order to make time-to-commissioning forecasts. Shoals says the system provides information on the entire solar energy commissioning process, down to the string level. SNAPShot integrates with Synapse’s cloud-based platform to enable live access to installation data from fixed or mobile devices.

Andalay Offers DC
Instant Connect Module

California-based Andalay Solar Inc. is offering its integrated DC Instant Connect panel with built-in racking, grounding and wiring. Each module comes with a pre-installed jumper cable, which eliminates the need for a homerun cable.

Andalay says the splice rods provide both structural rigidity and an electrical grounding path, making racking and copper grounding unnecessary. Built-in racking and grooves enable the panels to be attached directly to the roof without a rail system.

Schneider Electric
Unveils PV Box ST

Schneider Electric has unveiled its new PV Box ST containerized conversion system, suitable for harsh environment conditions, for centralized photovoltaic power plants and commercial applications.

The company says the PV Box ST features a standard 40-foot ISO shipping container and can be configured to withstand severe weather conditions in temperate, tropical, maritime and desert environments. The equipment complies with IEC-62271-202 standards, including IAC-A arc flash testing.

Schneider Electric also has a PV Box RT version that is designed for road transportation and has an integrated concrete basement for minimal civil work on-site.

The PV Box ST and PV Box RT include the Conext Control monitoring and control system.

UniEnergy Ships Grid Storage System

Seattle-based UniEnergy Technologies (UET) says its Uni.System grid-scale energy storage system is now commercially available.

The Uni.System is a modular system consisting of five 20-foot standard containers providing 500 kW of power for four hours, with power up to 600 kW and energy up to 2.2 MWh.

Gary Yang, UET president and CEO, says the battery storage component uses a new generation of vanadium electrolyte, initially developed at Pacific Northwest National Laboratory and supported by the U.S. Department of Energy’s Grid Storage Program. The Uni.System is fully containerized, including grid-scale integrated electrolyte tanks, field-large-scale stacks, and controls and power electronics.

Yang says the system has a temperature tolerance of -40°C to 50°C, making it suitable for grid support and microgrids in diverse locations and settings.

Solectria Introduces Arc Fault Detection

Solectria Renewables LLC has introduced its ARCCOM disconnecting string combiner with integrated arc fault detection and interruption. It is compatible with all of Solectria’s three-phase central inverters.

The ARCCOM is compliant with NEC 2014 arc fault and rapid shutdown requirements and contains a contactor disconnect, lockable switch and string level arc fault protection, allowing it to detect and interrupt a series arc. Solectria says the product is designed for extreme conditions and temperature ranges.

The ARCCOM also features standard oversized compression lugs that allow for long home run conductors. Additional options include a surge arrestor, optional AC power supply and stud connector plates for installers that prefer crimped connectors.
