SolarWorld Unveils
Sunmodule Protect
SolarWorld has introduced the Sunmodule Protect glass-glass solar panel. With a weight similar to that of a standard glass-film panel, the Sunmodule Protect substitutes a panel’s conventional backsheet with lightweight glass to better shield energy-producing solar cells from the elements, the company says.
With the glass-glass combination, cells also are less susceptible to shear stress, thereby reducing cell breakage. Even with a second pane of glass, Sunmodule Protect solar panels remain lightweight - at about 46 pounds. This advancement enables SolarWorld to extend its linear performance guarantee to 30 years, up from 25 years, offering 0.35 percentage points in lower performance protection over each of the 30 years.

Yamaichi Releases
New F.A.T. Connectors
Yamaichi Electronics has developed new models for its Y-Sol4 series of field-assembly F.A.T. connectors. Due to rising cost pressures in the PV industry, the company created an additional version of the connector for 4 mm² to 6 mm² cable cross-sections. The Y-Sol4 F.A.T. connectors feature a spring clamping mechanism for simple clamping of stripped cable in the field, the company says. This mechanism permits quick, effective assembly without crimping.
The new versions of the Y-Sol4 F.A.T. connectors are specifically suited for thin-wire outer diameters of 4.5 mm to 6.1 mm. Thin wires are popular in photovoltaic installations today because they are more cost-effective due to material savings, Yamaichi explains.
