Singapore-based Aurecon Group has won contracts to provide engineering services for three projects in the third round of the South African Department of Energy's Renewable Energy Independent Power Producer Procurement Program.

On the solar side, Aurecon will provide engineering services to Juwi and SunPower, the engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) contractors for the Sonnedix and Priesk photovoltaic energy projects under development by Mulilo Renewable Energy in Northern Cape province. The projects have a combined capacity of 75 MW.

Aurecon says it will provide design services for the substations, grid connections and associated overhead lines for the two projects. Financing for the projects is expected to close in June of this year, with project completion slated for 2015.

‘The installations are adjacent to each other and would share certain grid infrastructure,’ says Paul Nel, Aurecon's renewable energy service leader.

Aurecon also has a contract to provide engineering support for the Nojoli wind farm under development by Vestas in Eastern Cape province.
