BlueRock Solar, a subsidiary of utility products and services provider BlueRock Energy, has joined forces with Renovus Solar on a new community solar project in Millport, N.Y. The two New York-based companies say they will be installing 2,054 solar panels across three-and-a half acres to bring affordable, clean energy options to NYSEG delivery customers.
The 642 kW project is scheduled to be completed in the spring and will produce enough energy to power approximately 80 residential units per year. Membership in the project will work under a “pay as you go” model, whereby qualifying subscribers can sign up for a one-year contract.
“Community solar projects, such as this one, open the door to clean renewable energy for residents who may have otherwise been unable to take advantage,” says Michael Francis, general manager of BlueRock Solar. “No longer is the population of renters, homeowners with an unsuitable roof, or those unable to afford a solar system shut out of the benefits of going solar. Instead of placing panels on individual roofs, residents share the power generated by the project, paying as they go, while enjoying energy cost reductions.”
