U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) Secretary Steven Chu says the DOE has finalized a $197 million loan guarantee to SoloPower Inc. The loan guarantee will support the construction and operation of thin-film solar module manufacturing facilities at two sites in Portland, Ore., and an existing site in San Jose, Calif.
When completed and at full capacity, the facilities are expected to produce over 400 MW of flexible copper indium gallium diselenide photovoltaic modules annually. SoloPower estimates the project will create approximately 450 permanent jobs and 270 construction jobs.
The loan guarantee was announced in February.
