Energy Capital Group Building 300 MW Solar Plant In Utah

Energy Capital Group LLC (ECG) says it is developing the 300 MW ECG Utah Solar 1 solar plant. Power-Tech Engineers Inc. (PTEI) is providing engineering services. The project is estimated to cost $600 million.

ECG is leasing 1,754 acres from the Utah School and Institutional Trust Land Administration (SITLA). The site provides access to a high-voltage DC transmission line going directly to California via the adjacent Intermountain Power Plant (IPP).

‘ECG Utah Solar 1 will help California utilities achieve the state renewable portfolio standard of 33 percent by 2020 as the IPP substation is part of [the Los Angeles Department of Water and Power (LADWP)] transmission system, and LADWP is a California balancing authority,’ says PTEI President Victor M. Rojas. ‘This project … is a great fit for both California and Utah.’
