Oerlikon Solar has launched ThinFab, a production line for manufacturing thin-film silicon modules. According to the company, the new line allows for production costs of 0.5 euros/W.
The new ThinFab incorporates new generations of the core equipment used in plasma-enhanced chemical vapor deposition, transparent conductive oxide and laser operations. It allows for thinner cell structures with reduced degradation and reduced gas consumption, Oerlikon says, adding that stabilized module efficiency is 10%.
ThinFab also features a new low-voltage module design based on simplified new back-end equipment. The ThinFab reduces energy payback time of thin-film modules below one year, the company adds.
