SolarWorld plans to lay off about 100 workers at its Hillsboro, Ore., solar panel manufacturing facility at the end of August.
According to a Portland Tribune report, a SolarWorld spokesperson said the job cuts are part of an operational restructuring plan necessary because below-cost solar products are still being imported into the U.S. and Europe from China. Last year, following a complaint issued by SolarWorld and partners, the U.S. Department of Commerce placed anti-dumping tariffs on Chinese solar products.
‘They have slowed down, but not as much as the prices have continued to drop,’ Santarris told the Portland Tribune.
At press time, SolarWorld did not respond to requests for comment.
