Trina Solar Ltd. has signed a module supply agreement with Toyo Engineering Corp. to provide approximately 116 MW of photovoltaic modules for a 231 MW solar facility to be built in Setouchi City, located in Japan's Okayama Prefecture.

Setouchi Future Creations LLC is managing the project that will incorporate approximately 446,000 of Trina Solar's TSM-260PC05A modules. Toyo Engineering will build the solar photovoltaic power plant on 1,210 acres of city land on the former Kinkai salt field.

Billed as the largest solar power project in Japan, the Setouchi facility is expected to reach commercial operations in the second quarter of 2019.

‘We believe that demand for clean and sustainable energy in Japan will continue to increase and that solar energy will play a key role in the growing diversification of the country's energy mix,’ says Zhiguo Zhu, chief operating officer of Trina Solar and president of the company's module business. ‘Japan is a key market for us where we expect to further deepen our penetration.’
